Custom Artwork: Aalto Lounge

At Aalto, there was a immense amount of bare wall space in the recently remodeled back room: 14’ ceilings, and approximately 50 linear feet of finished birch plywood wall needing decor.

First we came up with the design: a multi-layered panel installation inspired by the front room art by locals Von Tundra (See bottom).

For material we chose plywood with a mixture of veneers: white melamine, stainless steel, and stained wood grain. We suspended the individual panels off the wall at different depths using lengths of pipe. Installation is backlit with rope light.

Matt Damboise, local contractor, constructed the piece.

I was able to repurpose the extra hexagon pieces during the construction of the adjacent photo booth.
