Wonderly Cocktail Bar, NE PDX.

European bistro culture inspired this concept: emphasizing community gathering, timeless materials, sophistication, and comfort.

Project limitations included budget (standard!), a long narrow space to create our ‘round’ in, and time: Our turnaround time was 10 weeks.

In our favor, the space came with a LOT of walnut boards, which we could repurpose, as well as walnut bistro tables.

We topped the large horseshoe bar with white Calacatta granite—we chose just a hint of grey vein to keep that clean look but have a little visual play. We continued this look to the two oversized tables flanking the front door.

Later on, we were tasked to design and build outdoor seats in the parking lane. The structure is 40’ long x 7’ wide, and features knockouts in the roof-line to accommodate the two mature trees within.

Our goal was to make this structure distinct from the ubiquitous street seat shelter, and to build in a more robust fashion to provide safety for the guests dining under the structure. We also paid special attention to the angle of the roof-line and wanted to reference the relaxed pitch of mid-century contstruction.
